Music at Pusey House
For safety reasons, and partly as a result of having to tighten our belts due to significantly reduced overall income, music for services is currently being provided by a quartet which sings from the favourable acoustics of the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. Musicians are by nature adaptable, and it has been good to have explored a different, perhaps more soloistic, way of singing which has brought a freshness to our music making.
Highlights of the coming year include a live streamed Advent Lessons and Carols, as well as a proposed tour to Sarlat-la-Canéda in the summer of 2021, when past and current members of the Choir of Pusey House will join in singing services and concerts featuring the music of William Byrd.
Laurence John continues in his role as Organist, while pursuing postgraduate studies in musicology at the Queen’s College. We are also fortunate to have Lay Clerks Melissa Talbot (soprano), Sarah Mattinson (alto), Matthew Pope (tenor), with James Tomlinson and Matthew Buchan sharing the role of Bass Lay Clerk.
We have, in the past, been extremely grateful to the Ousely Trust for having provided the choir with significant financial support, and without which the quality of music within our liturgy would have been diminished.
We are now continuing to actively look for other sources of funding, and would like to hear from those wishing to help in any way. If this is you, then do please contact our Master of the Music.
