Visiting the Library and Archive

The Library is open to all Monday-Friday 9.30-5.25. Appointments are not necessary, though highly advisable if using archival material. On your first visit, you will be asked to fill in an application form for our records.

For access to open stack material:

If you do not have an Oxford University Bodleian card, please bring:
one piece of photo ID;
one proof of address; and
one passport sized photograph to be issued with a Pusey House library ticket.

For access to archives and special collections:

If you have a category A Bodleian card, no further identification is required. Please note: note cards are category S.

If you do not have a category A Bodleian card, please bring a letter of introduction in addition to your University card, or the two forms of identification required for open stack material.

For further details, please download the library's information leaflet.

Finding us

Pusey House shares a building with St Cross College, which can be found on the corner of St Giles and Pusey Street, with the main entrance on St Giles.

There is time-restricted pay-and-display parking outside, but it is easiest to reach us by public transport.

The House is a 10 minute walk from the central train station or a 5 minute walk from Gloucester Green bus station.

The nearest bus stops are Magdalen Street, Keble Road (Banbury Road), and Radcliffe Observatory Quarter (Woodstock Road).

Accessibility

As with so many libraries in Oxford, Pusey House is in an historic building, and has associated issues with access: the reading room is on the 1st floor and the building does not have a lift.

We can pre-book a ground floor room and bring materials to you, and can provide accompanied access to accessible toilets in the adjoining St Cross accommodation.

If you have any concerns about accessing the Library and Archive, please contact us, and we will find a way to make our collections available to you.
