Biography

Isobel Clarke studied the recorder at the Royal College of Music under Ashley Solomon and Julien Feltrin. She has collaborated with Douglas MacMillan on the use of the Baroque bass recorder as a continuo instrument, and future research plans include investigating the 20th-century Early Music revival.
Isobel enjoys a varied career, involving a mixture of teaching, research and performance. In addition to her musical pursuits, Isobel works in student support at the London School of Economics. She is also a guest conductor for the Society of Recorder Players.

Douglas MacMillan is an organologist, music historian, and recorder player who studied the recorder with the late Jeanne Dolmetsch. He holds the degrees of DPhil (Oxon), DMus(RCM), and PhD(Surrey): he has published extensively on the recorder and flageolet. When not engaged in researching or playing the recorder, Douglas works as a volunteer in the Museum of the Royal College of Music.
Douglas’ current research includes an investigation into the evolution of the recorder consort and the history of the bass recorder.
