On 4 June (Corpus Christi), 4:00pm-5:00pm, there will be a book launch in the Hood Room at Pusey House for The Eucharistic God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Wipf & Stock, 2026), the latest work by the Revd Dr Ralph McMichael.

This is the second in a series of books, beginning with The Eucharistic Faith (SCM Press, 2019), that Dr McMichael plans to write to re-centre all of Christian theology on the Eucharist.

Tea and coffee will be served beforehand at 3:30pm.

The Eucharistic God is the second volume of a projected five-volume Eucharistic systematic theology. Fr. McMichael states that the purpose of this systematic theology is to re-imagine theology as the Eucharist and the Eucharist as theology. As such, this is not any standard systematic theology, for McMichael approaches the full scope of theology from the unyielding and relentless theme of the Eucharist. However, along the way he employs companions and clarifiers of his Eucharistic vision, as he does in this volume with Thomas Aquinas and Karl Barth.

The first volume The Eucharistic Faith articulated theology as having its origins and nature in the celebration of the Eucharist. He engages the subjects of Scripture, tradition, truth, language, knowledge, and faith from within the Eucharistic reality. In this second volume, Fr. McMichael engages directly the Triune God as the Eucharistic God. He begins by asking “Who is here?” and concludes with “The Eucharistic Mystery of the Triune God.” Along the way, the reader will encounter the exposition of what is customarily deemed the economic and immanent Trinity, with a treatment of the enduring questions of the essence and distinctive persons of the Trinity. At the heart of his Eucharistic systematic theology is the central claim that the Holy Eucharist is the primary and paradigmatic reality for all Christian theology, life, and prayer.
