About

From Michaelmas term (October) 2024, Pusey House is starting a regular concert series in full term. These concerts are on Tuesday Lunchtimes at 1:10pm in the chapel. They are not ticketed and have free entry. If you are able and have enjoyed the concert, please do consider making a donation. We aim for this series to showcase a range of musical talent. The chapel has a warm, but not boomy acoustic perfectly suited to chamber music. It houses a three manual English Romantic organ (see details here), and a mid-18th century Broadwood square-piano. The Broadwood is ideal Classical and early Romantic music, not only for solo piano works, but especially for accompanying. If you are interested in giving a concert, you are warmly encouraged to email alexander.trowell@btinternet.com who can advise. Details of upcoming concerts are listed below.

Alongside the lunchtime recitals, Pusey regularly hosts bigger concerts. The chapel is one of the most beautiful spaces in Oxford and can comfortably seat an audience of over one hundred and fifty. The large sanctuary-area leaves plenty of room for a small orchestra and/or a large choir. The intimate acoustic is most effective for chamber and choral music. The organ is especially suited to Romantic music. There are rooms that adjoin the chapel that can be used for an greenrooms as well as for an interval or reception. In recent years, Pusey House has hosted a number of ensembles such as the Delius Singers, Antiquum Documentum, Luceat, Sansara, vOx Chamber Choir, St Giles Orchestra, The Schola Cantorum of Oxford. We would love to hear from you if you would be interested in hosting a concert at Pusey House. Please email alexander.trowell@btinternet.com and pusey.society@stx.ox.ac.uk for more information.
