A 2-day Conference considering the extraordinary work and legacy of St Augustine

Attachments

St Augustine of Hippo profoundly shaped Christian theology and the Catholic tradition, setting a Western gold standard in Nicene trinitarianism, ecclesiology, grace, and sacramentology. His voluminous correspondence and the Confessions provide an unparalleled look into his life and intellectual development in Late Antiquity. This ecumenical conference brings together patrologists, historians, and systematic theologians to examine this monumental Latin Father and his evolving reception. Speakers will explore Augustine's life, context, theology, and scriptural interpretation. They will track how subsequent thinkers viewed the Bishop of Hippo as a model, authority, and conversation partner. Advancing Pusey House's tradition of bridging the Academy and the Church, the event builds on the success of last year’s Receiving Nicaea conference. It prioritises sharing world-class contemporary research with undergraduate and postgraduate students from Oxford and beyond, alongside those actively engaged in Christian ministry.
