Daily Private Prayer in the Church of God: A Reflection on the Theology of Bishop Lancelot Andrewes

Attachments

The year 2026 marks the quatercentenary of the death of Anglican bishop and theologian Lancelot Andrewes. A gifted pastor, preacher, and writer, Andrewes was deeply committed to the concept of the Church at prayer. Although he advocated for daily personal prayer, even compiling his Preces Privatae, he never separated this devotion from the corporate life of God's people. In this lecture, Professor Peters will investigate Andrewes’ dual commitment to both the Body of Christ and individual prayer, examining how both relate to the role and function of the Book of Common Prayer as the prayer book for the entire Church.
