Hypostatic Attention: How Jesus attends and why it matters for us.

Dr Derek King, Theologian-in-residence, Lewis House

We use our attention every day, for all manner of different reasons. When we attend, our minds select something in our world and block out everything else. We know the experience well. But how did Jesus attend? And does it matter for us? While comprehensive knowledge of a God-man's attention is beyond our ken, the councils of Chalcedon and Constantinople III provide helpful guides for thinking about Jesus' psychology. After surveying some options for how Jesus attends, this talk suggests a way forward—not only for how Jesus attends, but how his followers should attend, too.
