Most Anglicans are unaware of the sparkling spiritual riches in the 14th-century English Church - Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton, Margery Kempe, and Julian of Norwich. They demonstrate that there was a distinctive English spirituality before the Reformation. It was filled with a basic optimism and moderation that are needed in this day of pessimism and extremes.
